The Krewe of Endymion was founded in 1967 and is the largest of the three "Super Krewes" of Mardi Gras, with over 2,000 all male riders. "Super Krewes" are designated as such because of their large floats, large memberships, and their celebrity grand marshals. Holding the honor in 2010 was Saints owner Tom Benson. Endymion is unique among the super krewes because of its parade route, which begins in Mid City and winds its way downtown where it rolls into the Superdome, the site of its "Extravaganza", its version of a Mardi Gras ball. Tickets are available to the public and while ball goers still wear formal attire, the rest of the experience is unlike any other Mardi Gras ball as Endymion floats circle the Superdome floor, tossing throws to the 10,000 plus participants.
