The playfully named Idiotarod is a race between teams of five people pulling stylized shopping carts, starting in the borough of Brooklyn and ending in Manhattan. Teams are given only checkpoints and must devise their own routes to make it to each finish line. Awards are not only given to the first finishers but also to those with the best costumes, best bribes, and most creative sabotage techniques. Imbibing of alcohol or other substances is neither required nor discouraged and the race is administered by the mysterious group C.O.B.R.A. (Carts of Brooklyn Racing Association).
