Skater owned and operated, the Gotham Girls are part of a roller derby revival, a member of the WFTDA (Women's Flat Track Derby Association) which sanctions more than 30 leagues across the United States. While the aesthetic is very playful with more than a hint of punk (a typical skater name is Ariel Assault) and the uniforms can be fairly racy, the matches themselves are very competitive, with skaters routinely crashing to the ground and displaying top athleticism and skill that results from the punishing practices they put themselves through.
